The Legend of Paul and Paula
The Legend of Paul and Paula (German: Die Legende von Paul und Paula) is a 1973 film directed by Heiner Carow, who also directed Coming Out. The film follows Paul, an aspiring bureaucrat in an unhappy marriage with a wife who cheats on him, and his neighbor, Paula, a supermarket employee with two children and a loveless relationship with a tire salesman. When Paul and Paula met in a bar, they fall in love and begin and tumultuous relationship. This widely popular film tells its audience that it is better to feel and become hurt by those feelings than to rationalize yourself into being numb.
